WOOSTER, Ohio – Howard Wenger (left), HJ Wenger, Jeff Wenger and Rocky Wenger, members of Team Wenger, won the Central American Medical Outreach’s 10th annual golf scramble at The Pines Golf Course on June 20, 2015. The event, which had 86 golfers, raised about $10,000. Proceeds support CAMO, a humanitarian aid organization benefitting people in Honduras since 1993. Team Wenger donated its winnings back to CAMO.

In February 2015, 60 people with different faiths, professions and styles of life came together to be a part of something much greater than one individual could imagine. USA professionals work closely with their counterpart Hondurans who daily address the many needs of their own people. Without our counterparts, it is impossible to really understand the needs and problems and implement realistic solutions. Without our counterparts, there is no follow-up, accountability or sustainability.

Before its renovation, the Public Health Center in Santa Rosa was so horrible, you wouldn’t even take your dog there. It was hard to believe that a center in such condition treated actual medical needs. Rotting food and trash overflowed the waiting area which was exposed to the outdoors, even in the 90-degree heat or the 40-degree rainy season.

CANTON, Ohio – A partnership between nurses in Canton and Honduras could save lives in Central America.
The Aultman College of Nursing is teaming with Orrville-based nonprofit Central American Medical Outreach to improve health care in Honduras.
Earlier this summer, four nurses from Hospital de Occidente, the public hospital in Santa Rosa de Copán where CAMO operates, spent four weeks training at Aultman.
It was the start of a multiphase project to standardize nursing care in Honduras, a country where medical professionals aren’t measured by uniform standards, licensing is often based on the honor system and hospitals don’t adhere to protocol.

Everyone who knows CAMO has asked me about the children of Honduras coming to the USA. What is the real story? To understand the truth, I must first clarify a few points. I apologize in advance for the length of this editorial, but please bear with me.

It would be easy to become overwhelmed with all the need in a developing country. People ask me questions every day which demonstrate the difficulty of understanding developing countries’ poverty in comparison to that in the USA. The simplest answer is very few effective organizations exist and even fewer social services exist for the poor in a developing country.
Sería sencillo abrumarse con tanta necesidad en un país en-desarrollado. La gente me hace preguntas cada día lo que demuestra lo difícil que es entender la pobreza en un país en-desarrollado en comparación con Estados Unidos. La respuesta más simple son pocas organizaciones muy efectivas que existen e incluso aun menos servicios sociales que existen para los pobres en un país en desarrollo.
