Who We Are
Founded in 1993 by former Peace Corps nurse Kathryn M. Tschiegg, RN, BBA, CAMO is a non-denominational, Christian-based humanitarian organization working in Honduras to strengthen healthcare, education, and community development. Each year, CAMO helps provide more than 200,000 life-changing and life-saving services, while also investing in the people, skills, systems, and community resources needed for long-term progress.
The CAMO model was born from urgency. During Kathryn’s Peace Corps service, she witnessed death almost daily—infants, children, and adults dying because basic medical resources and trained personnel were simply not available. But she also saw that lasting change required more than medical care alone.
CAMO grew into a holistic model that brings together medical services, professional and community education, and community development. Today, nearly 20 programs strengthen local professionals, expand access to care, support children and families, create opportunities for education and employment, and build community systems designed to last.

What makes CAMO different?
Counterpart relationships make CAMO unique. Being a counterpart means just that – being an international part, or “partner,” with someone in the same field. The relationship is one of teaching, learning, communicating and growing. CAMO builds multi-disciplinary networks among medical experts, trade professionals and those in leadership development. CAMO-USA professionals commit to a minimum of 5 years to develop such counterpart relationships with CAMO’s Honduras professionals to promote positive, forward change.
How We Serve
CAMO operates in three main areas: Training and Education, Medical Services, and Community Development. CAMO USA collects, sorts, repairs, and distributes donated equipment and supplies that support each of these areas. CAMO USA and CAMO Honduras share a cloud-based inventory and distribution system and work together to strengthen specialized services by developing the tools, training, and human capacity needed to ensure resources reach the programs and communities where the y can have the greatest impact.
