Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO)

Since 1993, CAMO has worked alongside Honduran professionals and communities to build lasting solutions—not temporary fixes. Together, we provide medical care, equipment, education, training, and community programs for people who otherwise may have nowhere else to turn.

Medical services
For many people in Honduras, specialized medical care, equipment, and treatment are simply out of reach. CAMO helps close that gap by working through long-term counterpart relationships between Honduran and U.S. professionals. Rather than providing short-term, fragmented care, CAMO focuses on continuity—bringing together medical services, education, equipment, follow-up, and local expertise so patients are treated with dignity and receive the care they need over time.
Through the generosity of donors and partners in both Honduras and the United States, CAMO helps place lifesaving knowledge, supplies, and medical equipment into hospitals, clinics, and communities where they can make a lasting difference.
Education & Training
“Education is a part of everything we do.” – Dr. Tony Lazcano, Emergency Medicine Physician and CAMO Volunteer Trainer Knowledge creates change that lasts. That is why education is woven into every area of CAMO’s work. When new equipment is placed, a medical service is strengthened, or a program is developed, training goes with it—giving Honduran professionals the knowledge and skills to continue that work long into the future.
As an American Heart Association-accredited Training Center in Honduras, CAMO provides internationally recognized lifesaving education, including BLS, ACLS, and PALS, while also supporting professional development across numerous areas of healthcare. Each year, more than 1,000 professionals strengthen their skills through CAMO-supported education and training.
We don’t just provide resources. We invest in the people who use those resources to save lives and strengthen care for years to come.
Community Development
Healthy communities need more than medical care. CAMO works alongside local leaders and community partners to create safe, practical spaces that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and improve quality of life.
Through projects such as the community gym, cultural center, trade school, daycare center, domestic violence shelter, public health center, and hospital improvements, CAMO helps address the broader conditions that affect health and well-being.
Many of these community initiatives began decades ago and continue to thrive today—evidence that lasting change is possible when communities are empowered to sustain and build upon what was started.
Each project is built around the same goal: to strengthen communities with resources, skills, and systems that can continue serving people for generations.
Procurement & Distribution
The right resource, in the right place, can make lifesaving care possible. CAMO’s procurement and distribution system supports every area of our work—medical services, training and education, and community development—by securing donated equipment, supplies, educational materials, and other essential resources that would often be difficult or impossible to obtain locally.
By collecting, sorting, repairing, preparing, and shipping these donations to Honduras, CAMO significantly reduces the cost of providing care, training professionals, and strengthening community infrastructure. Once received, each item is carefully directed to the program, hospital, clinic, school, or community where it can have the greatest impact.
A donated resource becomes far more than an item—it becomes a treatment delivered, a professional trained, a facility strengthened, or a life changed.
Projects
CAMO projects begin with an urgent community need and a clear plan to meet it. Each project has a defined purpose, timeline, and end point—and is developed in response to needs that affect entire communities, not individual interests. Whether strengthening a hospital, building a shelter, expanding a clinic, developing a community center or trade school, improving emergency response systems, increasing access to clean water, or creating specialized services, every project is designed to become a lasting part of the community’s ability to care for and strengthen its people.
These projects are often the hardest to fund, yet they are among the most important. They create the infrastructure and systems that make healthcare, education, safety, skills training, emergency care, and opportunity possible for years to come. Every major project CAMO has completed continues to serve its community today, demonstrating the sustainability behind each investment. When you support a CAMO project, you are not funding a temporary solution—you are helping build something a community can depend on for generations.
